Description
Build with one of England’s most historic stones. Our newly quarried Kent Ragstone Walling Stone brings the rugged character and centuries of heritage of Kentish Ragstone to new walls, extensions and restoration projects.
A stone with a long history
Kentish Ragstone is a hard, dense limestone quarried in Kent, and has been used in building for nearly two thousand years. The Romans used it to build London’s city wall, and it went on to feature in medieval castles, churches and manor houses across the South East. In the Victorian era, it became a favourite for the many Gothic Revival churches built across London and the Home Counties. Its distinctive rough-hewn look remains a defining feature of towns and villages throughout Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Rugged, natural character
Ragstone is typically laid as random rubble walling (irregular, roughly shaped stones fitted together rather than laid in neat courses), giving walls a bold, textured, hand-built appearance. Its natural palette of soft greys and warm buff tones creates walls with depth and individuality.
Durable and long-lasting
Kentish Ragstone is notably hard and weather-resistant. Many ragstone buildings have stood for centuries, and new walls built today will develop the same timeless, weathered character over time.
Ideal for
- Matching extensions and repairs to existing ragstone buildings
- Listed buildings, churches and conservation area projects
- Garden, boundary and retaining walls
- New homes in Kent, Surrey, Sussex and London
- Landscaping and feature walls

Supplied in bulk bags, each covering approximately 3 to 4 square metres of wall face. Loose loads are also available at a reduced price for larger projects. As stock and availability vary, please enquire with your quantities and our team will provide a tailored quotation and delivery options.
